If you ask anyone with an online sportsbook, they will tell you that NFL football is a fantastic sport to bet on. Football betting can be lazy- you only have to pay attention on one day a week, sometimes, and all the games happen at once. You get all the stress over with, in a few short hours.
A problem does present itself, however, when it comes to betting on football. As you approach your online bookie, it can be increasingly difficult to choose which games to bet on. All of the teams play at once! Some strong teams and playing, some weak, but how does one choose? Well, that’s what I’m here for. Each week I keep my eye on a few games that interest me. I look for games with some fanfare, as they will be exciting to watch, but also games with clear betting lines and the opportunity to make some money. So here we go, get to your betting websites and let’s get started.
Game 1: San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday September 30th 1:00PM EST
The Chiefs beat the Saints last week! Can we just revel in that for a bit. Take a moment for that to sink in. I know what you’re thinking- “Matt Cassel outgunned Drew Brees? Impossible!”. And you’re right, that would be insane. In fact, no he did not. Cassel threw a pick and no touchdowns, while Brees threw three TDs and a pick. The fascinating stat is Chief’s kicker Ryan Succop’s six field goals. Six! It’s hard to believe that a team that failed to reach the endzone six times, and had to settle, actually won the game, but it’s true. The defence also preformed relatively well. They held off the Saints powerful offence and hung on to win the game. On the flip side, the Chargers are on a slippery slope leading to a lot of losing and bad football. They tallied up a grand total of three points against the Falcons last week. Enough said.
My Pick: The Kansas City Chiefs
Game 2: Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans, Sunday September 30th 1:00 PM EST
Both of these teams are coming off of very strong outings in week three. The Titans pulled off the upset over the favored Detroit Lions and won a shootout, racking up 44 points in the process. The Texans won strong game against the Denver Broncos, the six point scoring differential making it look a lot closer than it was. I think both of these teams are strong, both will be riding high on momentum and both, theoretically have a chance. But really, I can’t see the Texans losing this game. Their defence is the best in the league and they are the fifth best rushing team as well. They’ll be matched up against the 26th ranked defence that, we should all remember, still gave up 41 points in their win last week.
My pick: The Houston Texans
