Messi and Ronaldo, Nominees for Best Player of 2008

The award "FIFA World Player" already has its nominees for best player in 2008 and two of their top candidates to win, the Argentine Lionel Messi and Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, are present in the list of 23 candidates distributed today by the alderman of the body World football.

The awards ceremony will be held on January 12 2009 at the opening of Zurich and the winner will be defined by the votes of coaches and captains of national teams playing under the orbit of FIFA.

The 23 nomidados are complemented by Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo), Andrei Arshavin (Russia), Michael Ballack (Germany), Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Deco (Portugal), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast), Samuel Etoo (Cameroon), Steven Gerrard (England), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden), Frank Lampard (England), Franck Ribéry (France), John Terry (England) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (Netherlands).

The preselection was conducted by experts from the football committee of FIFA.

I can't see Messi taking the award for 2008 but if he stays healthy he should do it for 2009.
