Miller, Gyorko Head Early List Of Rookie Of The Year Candidates

The MLB rookie class is never easy to project, and that was certainly true about this year’s group as the season got underway. There were several names that the experts tossed around as having the potential to break out, but there was no clear candidate to have a breakout season and really take the league by storm. There are a number of rookies that have started strong and put themselves in line for potential Rookie of the Year honors, and while it is still early, one National League pitcher has truly performed above the rest of his class, with sports betting at Betonline.ag.

Cardinals’ pitcher Shelby Miller is 6-3 with a 1.82 ERA in this his rookie season, and it’s clear he is the cream of his pitching crop. Miller owns the best ERA in the entire NL ahead of Clayton Kershaw and Patrick Corbin, and while he is three back of current wins leader Patrick Corbin, there is no denying where he is at. Miller has an excellent combination of power and command, and his consistency is what has separated him from the rest. Los Angeles Dodgers’ starter Hyun-Jin Ryu and Cincinnati Reds’ starter Tony Cingrani have also been excellent to this point in the year, but Miller has been the best of the best. While the Texas Rangers have done well to integrate Justin Grimm and Nick Tepesch in to their rotation this year, neither one of them has been better than Miller.

The American League isn’t very well represented on the offensive side of the ball either, as Aaron Hicks was the one rookie expected to get a significant push but he has batted just .175 with six home runs this season. The situation is much different on the NL side, with three batters that have really come on as the year has progressed. That group is fronted by Jedd Gyorko of the San Diego Padres, as he leads all rookies with a .273 average and six home runs. Gyorko owns a .332 OBP and .426 slug percentage, and will continue to get every opportunity to show what he can do. AJ Pollock of the Arizona Diamondbacks is right behind him after batting .268 with five home runs and 20 RBI through his first 179 at-bats, followed by Pete Kozma of the St. Louis Cardinals, who is batting .245 with 21 RBI. There is no one breakout star the way we saw with Mike Trout a year ago, when he dominated as a rookie, but there are a number of quality players in the mix for Rookie of he Year honors.

With so much time to go, there is still a lot that can change. However, it’s unlikely any new candidates will emerge at this point, especially since there is nobody even on the radar right now. Miller and Gyorko have been the best of the best to this point, and that is why they lead a group of Rookie of the Year candidates for 2013, so check out this sportsbook.
