It’s the most wonderful time of year again, bowl season, and college football’s finest are coming up with their best ways of striking it rich in the hardware department before programs retire for the offseason. Although the early outlook at the sportsbook shows the college football odds in Arizona’s favor (to the tune of a 9.5-point spread), the Wolf Pack generated enough momentum in the first half of the season to turn some heads.

Whether they can capitalize on that, as opposed to the 1-4 finish they ended with, is what will determine how well balanced the matchup is come the weekend.

The Wildcats, in contrast, were consistent if not dominant. Though expectedly the Pac-12 contestant came up short against the conference’s most dominant programs, they did manage to pick on the then-No. 9-ranked USC Trojans amid their infamous free fall. That win, along with another against No. 18 Oklahoma State and a 7-5 record overall, tilts the scales in Arizona’s favor heading into the matchup.

More than just a clash of two decent programs who played admirably over the course of the season but didn’t quite live up to the level of the top programs in the country, the Gildan New Mexico Bowl ushers in the beginning of a blissful month of NCAA line action. Think you know how it will all unfold?

The Arizona Wildcats and Nevada Wolf Pack will look to kick bowl season off in style this weekend, as the MWC and Pac-12 reps collide in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl on Saturday afternoon. College football odds favor the former with a 9.5-point advantage, but stranger things have happened with hardware on the line.

Although the Wolf Pack started their 2012 campaign off on a hot streak, it quickly came to an end in the form of a 1-4 finish. Now limping into an opportunity to end their season on a strong note, they’ll have to do so as underdogs on the NCAA line.

The Wildcats, in contrast, haven’t exactly been dominant, but at least they’ve been consistent. Victories over ranked opponents in No. 9 USC and No. 18 Oklahoma State seem to have validated Arizona’s 7-5 record. Whether that translates to success when the clubs meet in New Mexico or not, is yet to be determined.
