NFL Betting: Bills Go a Long Way for a Beating

Buffalo Bills @ San Francisco 49ers – Sunday October 7, 2012 4:25PM EST

No one really wants to be the Buffalo Bills right now, not even the Bills. After trying to impress the football betting world by spending obscene amounts of money on its defensive line, the Bills are definitely not getting a good return on its investment. A second half defensive collapse in its week four home game against the New England Patriots has shown the Bills to be wide open to any kind of disaster that the other team may be planning. For the next two weeks, the Bills will be on the west coast where the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals are more than willing to exploit further issues with the Bills’ highly-paid but poorly performing defense.

The online sports book experts are still trying to understand how the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Minnesota Vikings in week three. To avoid having the pundits over-analyze the loss, the 49ers went out and beat the stuffing out of the New York Jets on the road. Now San Francisco gets to go home and host another struggling AFC East team in the Buffalo Bills. The Bills fans in Buffalo will be able to watch the game on television, but they may not like what they see.

At 2-2, the Bills are still in the thick of the AFC East race. But the bookies are not seeing anything out of the Bills, or any other AFC East team, that will be able to compete with the Patriots for the long haul. The Patriots may limp to an AFC East title, but it is New England’s title to lose. The Bills still have problems at quarterback as Ryan Fitzpatrick has proven to be erratic at best. The running game should be solid if running backs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller can stay healthy. The biggest concern that Bills fans have is how badly that San Francisco offense is going to embarrass the Bills’ high-paid defense.

A 5 dimes review of the 49ers’ response to its loss in Minnesota shows that San Francisco still knows exactly what it is doing. The 49ers still have a defense that is one of the best in the league and an offense that can score points more freely this season than last season. It will be a confident and determined San Francisco team that the Bills will be facing in week five.

The Bottom Line

If the Bills could just find a way to live up to the hype the team created, then it could be 4-0 right now. But bad offensive play, dumb penalties and a weak defensive line make the Bills an NFL punchline yet again. The 49ers know that the Cardinals have the Bills in week six, so San Francisco wants to get that win to keep up with a Cardinals team that may be 6-0 in a couple of weeks.
