The NFL preseason presents an interesting and unique experience when it comes to placing a bet in an online sportsbooks. Team rosters are not yet in place and up-and-coming youngsters can have a bigger impact on the game than in the regular season.
The stars of the team could play one possession, leaving early to avoid injury or to give the second and third strings a chance, but they could play into the third quarter- evidenced in last week’s Patriots/ Bucs game. Taking all of this into account, there are two games that I’m going to pay special attention to this week.
Game 1: New England Patriots at New York Giants- Wednesday August 29th
This will be a fun game to watch as well as an entertaining opportunity for online football betting.
That being the case, he will have incentive to perform well in the preseason. The past has proven how explosive he can be. Another player to watch is recently signed Olympic sprinter Jeff Demps. No one really knows what will become of the Florida Alum, but anyone with Olympic speed has a great deal of potential on the football field. As for the Giants, backup QB David Carr is still believed to have the talent to perform well, but has really struggled in consistency since his time with the Texans. The Patriots have a lot to prove despite the seemingly unimportant status of a preseason game. When the boys from New England walk onto the field and see Giant blue and red, there will be unavoidable memories of last year’s upsetting Superbowl loss. Individually, there are some Pats who need to do some impressing as well. With the recent long-term contracts signings locking up their two young-gun tight ends- Hernandez, Gronkowski- there has been a lot of talk circling around the Patriots’ need of Wes Welker.

The race for third-string running back will have the most profound effect on the game this week. Behind veterans Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw, three younger backs have been vying for the number three spot. David Wilson, especially, has proven himself. He will likely get the majority of touches this week and is fast and strong enough to be a thorn in the side of New England’s defence. No matter which online bookie you use, there will be a lot of bets going either way on this game.
My Pick: New England Patriots
My Pick: New England Patriots
Game 2: Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts- Thursday August 30th
This is an interesting matchup because of the potential gains if you were to bet online. The Colts are favoured to win this game, and with seemingly good reason- they’ve got stronger team core, better defence, and a more veteran team. This, however, is a great opportunity to bet against Indy, and defy the odds. The Cincinnati Bengals do have a younger, less experienced team. But in the preseason, this means they have more to play for. A Colts team, with most of the roster set, but will sit much of the core while the Bengals will be playing for their jobs.
My Pick: Cincinnati Bengals.
