The second week of NFL preseason games is usually dominated by rookies and players most people have never heard of. Coaches use this second week to start the process of making early cuts and deciding who has a shot at making the roster and who does not. The betting sites doubt that there is any question as to who will be the starters in San Francisco and Houston when the season begins. But there are a lot of interesting questions that this second preseason week could answer for both teams.
Both Houston and San Francisco won their opening preseason games last week, and both teams look to be very deep at the important positions. Even the horse betting sites know that Matt Schaub will be the starting quarterback in Houston. But is TJ Yates going to be able to beat out John Beck for the backup job? There is a lot of intrigue with both of these teams that could make this a very entertaining preseason game.
San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh has been given much of the credit for bringing the team back to prominence, and rightfully so. Harbaugh took essentially the same lineup that missed the playoffs in 2010 and marched it to the 2011 NFC Championship game. The legal online sports betting sites will point out that the 49ers were two fumbled punts away from going to the Super Bowl.
This season, the offense has been enhanced by the addition of veteran wide receiver Randy Moss. The defense has picked up several interesting new players in free agency and in the draft. As long as the 49ers do not implode, then this could be one of the top teams in the NFC.
Houston Texans
Everything that is going on in Houston points to good things for the Texans. Despite losing linebacker Mario Williams to free agency, the Texans still possess one of the most potent defenses in the NFL. Houston picked up a couple of players in the 2012 draft that they hope will pick up the slack for Williams. The strength of the Houston defense seems to lie in coordinator Wade Philips and not so much with the players.
The BSNblog experts are extremely impressed with the Houston offense and cannot get over how deep the Texans are at almost every offensive position. Running back, quarterback and wide receiver are the strengths of the Houston offense and it will be difficult for any team to game plan against it.
The Bottom Line
This should be a very entertaining preseason football game to watch. Both of these teams have extremely talented players fighting for roster spots and places on the depth charts. In the end, it should be the depth of the Houston Texans that puts it over the top against a very good San Francisco 49ers team.
