2012 NCAA Football Betting: Clemson vs. Auburn Odds

A BSNblog review of the NCAA Week 1 schedule would show that there are more intriguing matchups than usual as big teams usually have cupcakes on their slate, but in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, a pair of Tigers clash as Clemson of the ACC meets the SEC’s Auburn.

Clemson vs. Auburn Odds – Saturday, September 1st, 7:00 PM ET

Clemson stormed to the ACC title on the back of an offense that was explosive as any in the country, but some players knew that their defense wasn’t going to hold up and they gave up a bowl-record 70 to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl. Seven starters are back on that side of the ball and they have a lot to prove in 2012 because the Tigers won’t be able to win the ACC like that again.

There are also seven starters back on offense, led by quarterback Tajh Boyd, but the Tigers have a few questions to answer up front. Even though they have a wealth of talent at the skill positions, will Boyd have time to find them?

Auburn also had a sketchy defense and they gave up 38 points or more in all five of their losses, although they did recover to beat Virginia in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. Most football betting blog didn’t have them favored to defend their national title after Cam Newton left for the NFL, but the offense should be in better shape this season with quarterback Clint Moseley, who got better as the season went on, and running back Onterio McCalebb. The big question will be a defense that was atrocious, even worse than Clemson, and even though there are 10 starters back, are they even any good? That question will be answered this season.

NCAA football betting odds have Clemson favored by 3.5 points in this neutral-site affair which should have both schools well represented as Clemson is from South Carolina, and Auburn is from Alabama. Auburn is 3-1 against Clemson since 1998, although Clemson rolled to a 38-24 win last season and have prevented Auburn from covering three times.

This is going to be fun as both offenses like to attack you quickly, but neither one has a good defense, so the total of 62 is going to be challenged in what could be the best game of the first week in college football. Auburn has a little more strength up front on both sides of the ball as the lines could be an Achilles Heel for Clemson in 2012, so go with Auburn when making online sports betting picks.
