Kevin Keegan Out at Newcastle

SBG Global Reports are that Kevin Keegan is out as manager of Newcastle United following a meeting with the club’s directors on Tuesday. Keegan was reportedly unhappy ownership was not willing to do much in the transfer market and wanted out. Last week James Milner was sold to Aston Villa even though Keegan wanted him to stay.

The transfer issue really came to a head a few weeks ago when Dennis Wise took over as Executive Director at Newcastle. Since that time the team has been unable to sign any big names and Keegan was upset at the lack of action. Keegan was welcomed back at Newcastle with open arms in January after Sam Allardyce was fired. Keegan first coached Newcastle in 1992 and did quite well at the helm. He resigned in 1997 and went on to manage Fulham, England and Manchester City.

Fans of Newcastle are not happy with Keegan leaving. They were heard to be chanting 'sack the board' on Tuesday. Security guards had to force the fans to leave but obviously tensions are high surrounding the departure of the popular Keegan. Many fans are voicing displeasure at Dennis Wise and Mike Ashley.

Newcastle sits in 11th place in the Premier League standings with four points in three games.

In other Premier League news, Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is expected to miss the next two to three weeks, dealing Liverpool a major setback as they get ready to host Manchester United next weekend. Torres hurt his hamstring in the scoreless draw at Aston Villa on Sunday. “Fernando is one of the best players in the world and obviously he will be a huge loss to us. But at Villa we handled the loss well. We re-grouped and showed tremendous team spirit, Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt said, "It is something we will have to do against United if Fernando does not make it."

Torres is also expected to miss Spain's opening World Cup qualifiers. Spain plays Bosnia on Sept. 6th in Murcia and Armenia on Sept. 10th in Albacete.

Torres might also be in question for the start of the Champions League group stage. Liverpool plays at Marseille on Sept. 16th in group play.
